Residents in Cape Town CBD and surrounding areas to expect temporary roadworks

The City of Cape Town’s Road Infrastructure Management Department will soon commence with the resurfacing of various roads and other roadworks in the Cape Town CBD and surrounding areas such as Bo-Kaap, Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Camps Bay. 

The roadworks will commence over this coming week. Work will take place from Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 17:00.

The following roads will be resurfaced in the Cape Town CBD:

·        Buitengracht Street between Hillside Road and Military Road; half of the road will be closed off for construction

The following roads will be resurfaced in Bo-Kaap:

·        Military Road between Pentz and Noon Gun. A full road closure will be necessary here, only Noon Gun will be affected.

·        Chiappini Street and Longmarket Street intersection

·        Leeuwen and Jordaan Street intersection

The following roads will be resurfaced in Bantry Bay:

·        Avenue Marina from Kloof Road to Avenue Brittany: half of the road will be closed off for construction

·        Arcadia Road from Bartholomew Avenue to Arcadia Close: half of the road will be closed off for construction

The following road will be resurfaced in Sea Point:

·        Kloof Road (bottom end) between Regent Road/Main Road and Church Street: half of the road will be closed off for construction.

The resurfacing of all these roads should be completed over the next five weeks, weather permitting.

Roadworks to be done along Hanover Street:

•  Arcadia Road between Arcadia Close and the cul-de-sac: half of the road will be closed off for construction
  
  Gantry sign to be replaced along Eastern Boulevard:

•        On 30 April 2023 between 07:00 to 13:00 the City will be removing a damaged gantry sign in sections and replacing the sign along Eastern Boulevard. The sign is located just before the N1/ F.W. De Klerk Boulevard and N2/Nelson Mandela Boulevard split.

'Our Roads Infrastructure Management team in the City Bowl and surrounding area will be very busy resurfacing roads over the next few weeks and as a local resident I look forward to enjoying the new and improved roads in this district. The raised intersection at the Hanover Street and Searle Road intersection in the District Six area is also very welcome as a traffic calming measure was much needed along that route. Temporary deviations will be in place to accommodate some of these works, but I ask that road users please remain patient with our teams as they try complete the job as efficiently as possible,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

Commuters are advised to be cautious and to slow down when approaching the areas where work is under way.
